What’s the Best Way to Get to La Paz?

Option 1: Fly directly to La Paz Airport. There are taxis at the airport to take you from the airport to the Resort boat dock on the Malecon. From the airport, the Paraiso boat dock is only about a 15 minute ride.  We also would suggest setting up one of the shuttles listed below (Octavio or Manny) and they will pick you up right at the airport customs gate and bring you to the boat dock at a very reasonable cost.

Option 2: Fly to Cabo San Lucas Airport. Cabo can often be cheaper to get to and there are more flight options. The drive to La Paz from the Cabo airport is about 2.5 – 3 hours.

How do we get to La Paz if we fly in to Cabo?

Option1: Rent a Car. There are many major rental car companies in the Cabo airport. You can check online for rates and availability. Advantage, Thrifty, Budget, Alamo, Hertz, and Avis are a few that you will find right around the airport.

Option 2: Private Shuttle Van. There are many shuttle companies, but we suggest Octavio Aviles, who runs a company called Turispancho.  Below is his contact information.  He speaks great English and is good about responding to inquiries.

Octavio:  www.turispancho.com or turispancho65@gmail.com

Option 3: Shuttle To La Paz Bus Service. This is a nice bus service (like Greyhound in the US). Go online to www.ecobajatours.com and book your seat just as you do for an airplane ticket. Print your boarding pass. They do not send confirmation thru e-mail yet. Departs Cabo Airport at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30pm. Rate is $400 pesos (about $35) per person ONE WAY. Also, the shuttle will be waiting at terminal 1, so if your plane arrives to terminal 3 you have to take an internal shuttle at no cost to go to terminal 1.  The ride via bus from the Cabo Airport to the La Paz Malecon bus terminal takes about 3 hours — a little slower than a car or van.

If we rent a car, what do we do with it while we are at Paraiso?

Most people that rent a car choose to leave it parked near the Paraiso office on the Malecon and take the shuttle boats to the resort. Parking is free (and safe) on the street. There is a secure parking lot as well that charges by the day. Some owners will drive their cars from La Paz to the Paraiso resort, but it is a long drive (40 minutes or so) on a dirt road. It’s much easier to park your car and take the short boat ride.

Do we need a car when we are in La Paz?

Most people do not use their cars in La Paz. Many restaurants are a short walk from the Malecon and the major grocery stores are a short walk or cab ride. Unless you are planning day excursions or exploring, there really is no need for a car.

How often does the Paraiso Shuttle boat go back and forth to town?

PDM has an exclusive water taxi service that runs back and forth between the Malecon and the development. It is very handy and very enjoyable. It runs every 30 minutes between the hours of 7am and midnight. There is an after-hours shuttle if guests need to go between midnight and 7am. This can be arranged with the Paraiso Concierge.

How do we get around the Resort without a car?

Very few people have cars at the PDM development. Golf carts and bikes are the norm. Many owner/guests either own or rent golf carts. Golf cart rentas are a bit hard to come by these days, but if you plan ahead, we can try to help you find a rental. PDM also has a complimentary shuttle service that runs throughout the development. Currently they are not on a consistent schedule so PDM guests either have to call for the shuttle or wait for them to come by. It’s much easier with your own golf cart!
